Nutrition and Food Hygiene

Overview

The Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene was founded in 1956, and the current department chair is Prof. Yang Nianhong. The department has a staff of 18, including 6 professor, 3 associated professors, 2 laboratory technicians and 7 postdocs. Among them, 8 are doctoral degree supervisors.

The department teaches courses such as “Nutrition and Food Hygiene”, “Preventive Medicine”, “Clinic Nutrition”, “Nutriology of Women and Children”, etc. At present, there are over 30 full-time master students and more than 10 doctoral students enrolled in the department. The department edits the national higher education guidebook "Nutriology of Women and Childeren" and twelfth five-year plan for national key publishing books of "Food pollution and health".

In the past 10 years, the department many researches projects at the national and provincial levels, including 1 Major International (Regional) Joint Research Project, 1 National Program on Basic Research Project of China, 24 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and 8 provincial-level projects, and the total amount of research funding exceeded 20 million CNY. Our main research areas cover a variety of topics, such as molecule nutrition, nutrition and chronic diseases, early life nutrition and lifetime health and disease, phytochemicals and cardiovascular disease, alcoholic liver diseases, and chronic metabolic disorders. We have published over 200 SCI/SSCI papers on leading biomedical journals in the field, includingBMJ,Diabetes Care,Diabetes,Am J Clin NutrandMol Nutr Food Res. The department has received 1 second prize of Natural Science of Colleges and Universities of Ministry of Education of China and 1 Hubei Province Natural Science Award. We have regular academic exhaanges and collaborations with universities and research institutions in the United States. and Germany, and other.
