Doctoral Program of Preventive Medicine

I. Educational Objectives

1. This program aims at cultivating advanced professionals in preventive medicine who are qualified to academic research.

2. The graduates have solid foundation in a wide scope of theories, systematic and advanced knowledge and practical skills in the area of preventive medicine.

3. The graduates should undertake innovative research in preventive medicine.

II. Duration and Cultivation Mode

The duration for doctoral degree ranges from three to five years, and the Master-Doctor continuous program graduate students is usually five to six years.

Credit Requirements and Composition

Total credits for doctoral students≥29; total credits for Master-Doctor continuous program graduate student≥53.

III. Specific Requirements for Doctoral Students

1. Interdisciplinary courses required

Interdisciplinary courses refer to postgraduate courses beyond the first-grade discipline. Students are required to attend classes and participate in examinations.

2. Thesis proposal

One credit is awarded if the thesis proposal is approved. The proposal must cover:

(1) The source of the topic and its significance;

(2) The recent advances of the topic;

(3) The research content and technical scheme;

(4) The research hypothesis;

(5) Expected achievements;

(6) The main references.

3. Interim report

Before writing a doctoral thesis, the doctoral dissertation should be report the results of the research to the doctoral supervisory team or relevant scholars and experts for improvement before writing the thesis.

4. Ph.D. candidates’ application for thesis defense and qualification

Doctoral dissertation qualification is supervised by the academic evaluation group.

The basic requirements for doctoral candidates to apply for thesis defense:

(1) Meet required course credits;

(2) Qualified in thesis proposal;

(3) Qualified in interim report;

(4) Publish the required number of papers in academic journals;

(5) Qualified thesis writing;

(6) Qualified the review by internal and external experts in the field.
