Institute for Environmental Health

Overview

The Institute of Environmental Medicine was established by the National Environmental Protection Agency and the Tongji Medical University in 1986. In November 2002, the State Key Laboratory of Environment Health (Incubation) was established. The Institute of Environmental Medicine is also a major part of the national key discipline under Ministry of Education and Key Laboratory of Environment and Health, Ministry of Education.

The Institute of Environmental Medicine has a highly competitive faculty with 17 staffs, including 8 full professors, 8 associate professors and 1 lecturer. In our Institute, there are 8 doctoral supervisors and 16 master supervisors. The team includes special and titled Professors of 1 Yangtze Scholar, 3 Excellent Talents toward the 21st Century.

The Institute has two majors for doctoral and master students: “Occupational and environmental health” and “Health inspection and quarantine”.

The main research interests in our Institute include environmental pollution and health, and new technologies for environmental medical monitoring.

From 2015 to 2018, the Institute won 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and 1 first prize of Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress Award.

The Institute has been awarded more than 10 government-funded longitudinal projects each year, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and national key Research & Development projects. The annual research funding is more than 5 million RMB. Recently, our Institute has extensive collaborations with the universities in the United States, Sweden, and other countries.

The Institute publishes 40-50 SCI papers each year. In recent years, the Institute has published 57 textbooks and monographs.
