Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Overview

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics was originally formed by the Division of Epidemiology and the Division of Biostatistics. The department comprises of 21 staff, including 6 professors, 10 associate professors, 3 lecturers and 2 laboratory technicians. Our degree program is among the first batch of master's and doctoral training programs in China, with 11 doctoral supervisors and 18 master's supervisors. Our outstanding faculty members have obtained prestigious titles, including 1 “Distinguished Young Scholar of National Natural Science Foundation of China”, 1 “National Program for Support of Top-notch Young Professionals”. More than 80% of the faculty members have overseas study experience.

The department is committed to improve public health via education, research and talent cultivation. There are currently over ten courses at different levels taught by our department. The department has an intake of more than 40 master students and doctoral students each year, and has trained numerous outstanding talents for various research institutes, enterprises and institutions at all levels.

Our research covers a broad array of topics in public health, including but not limited to cancer molecular epidemiology, diabetes epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, big data in healthcare, nutritional epidemiology and clinical epidemiology. We have undertaken a number of national key research and development projects and projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and have received research funding of more than 5 million RMB per year in the past five years.
