The eighth award ceremony of Shulan Medicine Award was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on November 20, 2021. Three Shu Lan medicine winners and twelve youth winners were honored. Professor An Pan, a professor at School of Public Health of HUST, was presented with the Shu Lan Medicine Youth Award this year.
Shu Lan Medicine Youth Award was sponsored by the Academician Shusen Lanjuan Talent Foundation (or Shu Lan Foundation for short) and was approved by the National Office for Science & Technology Awards. The award aims to encourage outstanding medical talents and boost the development of medical and health sector, promoting China's medical science and technology to reach the world-class level. The award recognizes outstanding scientific and technological Chinese talents who have made breakthrough achievements in medicine and health. Shulan Medicine Award is awarded once a year. The number of the winners is strictly limited, including fewer than 3 Shulan Medicine Award recipients and fewer than 10 Shulan Medicine Youth Award recipients.
Clarivate recently announced the list of highly cited researchers worldwide for 2021, and Prof. Pan An and 13 other professors of HUST were listed among them. Dr. Pan is a professor at the School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research mainly focuses on the determinants and consequences of obesity and chronic metabolic diseases, like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He has published over 240 SCI papers with citations over 13000 and an H-index of 60, including papers on NEJM, JAMA, BMJ. Dr. Pan is supported by the NSFC regular and key projects, National key Research & Development project, and are establishing cohort studies for type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus to investigate their causes and consequences. Dr. Pan currently serves as an associate editor for the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and Nutrition & Metabolism, and on the editorial board for several other international and Chinese journals. Dr. Pan is also the vice chair for the Basic Nutrition Council and Nutritional Epidemiology Council of the Chinese Nutrition Society.
