The Football League finals of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Tongji Campus) was held at 13:00 on May 18th, in which our school team won the third place with a 5 to 2 victory over the School of Basic Medicine. On the same day, the volleyball team overwhelmingly beat the First Clinical College by 3 to 0, obtaining the championship in the Volleyball League finals. What an exciting event to get both triumphs! Now, let’s look back at the wonderful moments of the two games.
In the first part of the football game with the School of Basic Medicine, our team scored two consecutive goals. In the second part, the opponent struggled to catch up, but we continued to expand our advantage and set the score at 5 to 2. Finally, we got the bronze trophy again after five years.
Soon after, the men’s volleyball finals kicked off at 19:30. Facing to the old rival—the First Clinical College—our athletes showed their excellent scoring ability as usual, easily winning the first round by 25 to 12. At the start of the second round, the opponent team grabbed our missed services and inaccurate spikes to fight back, so they began leading the score. When the difference was increased to five points by 15 to 20, our team asked to suspend the game so that we could alter our tactics. After the suspension, our players retrieved the status and caught up to 24 to 24. At this critical moment, it was the tight defence and powerful attack that helped us get two more points and ultimately win the most crucial and most strenuous round. As the third round was quickly won with 25 to 17, our school became the champion of the Men’s Volleyball League. Furthermore, another breathtaking news is that we attained this golden medal without even one failure in all men’s volleyball games this yea.
Turning to women’s volleyball game, we advanced to the semi-finals after defeating the Department of Forensic Medicine and the School of Nursing in group matches. Regrettably, we missed the final because of the lost against the School of Basic Medicine. We met our familiar rival—the Department of Forensic Medicine—in the third place competition. With their stable performance, our players brought us another bronze trophy.
In a competition, the most important thing is not the honour itself, but the moments that the athletes strive for the honour of themselves and their teams. These precious moments will encourage all the faculty and students to firmly step forward for lofty ideals and goals.
