Professor Chang Jiang of the School of Public Health received the National Program for Support of Top-notch Young Professionals

Wuhan, China Recently, the organization Department of the CPC Central Committee announced the fourth support list of “Ten Thousand Talents Program”. Professor Chang Jiang of the School of Public Health was funded by the National Program for Support of Top-notch Young Professionals.

Professor Jiang Chang graduated from Peking Union Medical College with a Ph.D. in 2014. His mentor, Prof. Lin Dongxin, was an expert of Cancer Genetics and Molecular Epidemiology. From 2014, Jiang joined the School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He devoted to the molecular epidemiology studies based on large and multi-center samples. In recent years, Prof. Chang has several papers published on top journals such as Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, and Cancer Research. In particular, he revealed the association between genetic variants in retinoic acid metabolism and alcohol metabolism pathways, and the susceptibility to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in the Chinese population. He also revealed the molecular mechanism underlying these associations, providing new insights into the individualized prevention and treatment of ESCC.

The “Ten Thousand Talents Program” is the abbreviation of the “National High-level Talents Special Support Plan”. On August 17, 2012, with the approval of the leaders of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, 11 departments and units including the Central Organization Department and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security jointly issued this plan. The overall goal is to select and support about 10,000 outstanding talents in a planned and focused manner in about 10 years from 2012. The “Ten Thousand Talent Program” includes 3 levels and 7 categories of talents. Among them, the first level is “Outstanding Talents”, selecting talents with the potential to win the Nobel Prize and growing up as world-class scientists; the second level is “Leading Talents”, including “Leading Talents in Science Innovation”, “Leading Talents in Technology Entrepreneurs”, “Leading Talents in Philosophy and Social Sciences”, "Teaching Masters" and "Millions of Leading Engineering Talents"; the third level is " Top-notch Young Professionals ", selecting young talents with great development potential under 40 years old.
