Maternal and Child Health

Overview

The Department of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) was developed by combining former Division of Child & Adolescent Health and Division of Women and Child Health. There are now five divisions (women's health, child health, maternal and child information management, school health, adolescent health), and two research centers (Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Research Center for Mental Health) in the department. In 2007, the discipline of MCH was selected by the Ministry of Education as a national key discipline (incubation). It offers courses of maternal and child health care, adolescent health, medical psychology, and medical statistics to undergraduate and graduate students. In recent years, as the editor-in-chief and deputy editor-in-chief, the faculties had published a series of high impact textbooks including Children's Health Care, Maternal and Child Information Management, Introduction to Reproductive Health, Global Maternal and Child Health, Maternal and Child Health Education, Medical Psychology.

There are 10 faculty members including five professors, three associate professors, and two lectures in the department. The main research areas include environmental exposure on women and children’s health, mental health of adolescents, neurodevelopmental disorders in children, growth and development of children and adolescents, and epidemiology of injury among women and children. Each year, the department received 2-4 national funding projects, such as funding support from the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Key Research & Development Projects, and published about 20 English papers and about 20 Chinese papers. Additionally, we expand our researches by close international collaborations with universities in the United States and Sweden.
